Special Constable Axed Over Disturbing Bodycam Footage Scandal
A special constable has been sacked after snooping on sensitive body-worn camera footage showing the heartbreaking final moments of two students who were fatally stabbed in Nottingham last June.
Tragic Attack Shakes Nottingham
Grace O’Malley Kumar and Barnaby Webber were viciously stabbed during a night out. The horror didn’t end there — school caretaker Ian Coates was also attacked shortly after by Valdo Calocane, a paranoid schizophrenic.
Mass Police Privacy Breach Uncovered
- An internal probe revealed nearly 180 police staff accessed the case files.
- Shockingly, 11 had no legitimate reason to view the footage.
- The discharged special constable was among those caught peeking at the distressing clips on their police laptop.
The footage showed paramedics and officers desperately trying to save Grace and Barnaby — even continuing after they had sadly died. This breach was described as “morbid voyeurism” by grieving father Sanjoy Kumar.
Serious Consequences and Ongoing Probes
The special constable not only lost their job but is now permanently banned from policing. Nottinghamshire Chief Constable Kate Meynell held a private accelerated misconduct hearing.
Meanwhile, a further gross misconduct investigation targets another staff member arrested for unauthorised evidence access. PC Matt Gell also received a final written warning for probing Calocane’s records without involvement in the case.
“I’m disgusted; it’s absolutely morbid voyeurism. As parents, we feel broken-hearted about it,” said Sanjoy Kumar. He slammed police for not notifying the family about the misconduct hearing and demanded the right to attend.
