Police Flood Barking Street After Shots Fired – Bullet Casings, Machete, and Butcher’s Knife Found

A major police presence remains in Harts Lane, Barking, after shots were fired, prompting an urgent search of the area.

Spent Bullet Casings and Weapons Recovered

Officers responding to multiple emergency calls discovered spent bullet cartridges from live rounds at the scene. A further search just yards from a children’s play area led to the recovery of a large butcher’s knife and a machete.

No Reported Injuries, But Investigation Ongoing

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that while no injuries or victims have been found, officers continue to investigate the circumstances.

“Officers remain on scene in Harts Lane, Barking, following reports of shots fired. No reported injuries or victims have been found at this stage, and enquiries are ongoing. A large crime scene has been implemented owing to the discovery of spent cartridges.”

Section 60 Order Enforced Amid Increased Police Patrols

In response to the seriousness of the incident, police have implemented a Section 60 order, granting officers enhanced stop-and-search powers in designated areas.

The affected wards include:

  • Abbey Ward
  • Gascoigne Ward
  • Academy Ward

The Section 60 order will remain in effect until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow (February 11), allowing police to stop and search individuals without suspicion in an effort to prevent further violence.

Appeal for Witnesses

Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage related to the incident to contact the Metropolitan Police or provide anonymous tips via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
