Off-Duty Cops Brutally Attacked Trying to Break Up Pub Brawl
Two off-duty police officers were left battered and bruised after trying to stop a scuffle at a busy London pub. The shocking assault happened around 5.10pm on 20 December 2019 inside The Maple Leaf on Maiden Lane, WC2.
Heroic Coppers Suffer Serious Injuries
The officers spotted a fight erupt between two groups of men nearby. They jumped in to calm things down but were soon punched by three attackers. Both cops were rushed to hospital – one with a dislocated shoulder, the other with a broken eye socket.
Suspects on the Run as Police Release CCTV
The three thugs made a swift getaway. Now, detectives have released CCTV footage of the men they want to question. Detective Constable Karl Lewis said:
“These officers were enjoying an evening out when they witnessed a fight which they tried to prevent becoming more serious. In doing so, they themselves were set upon and injured, leaving them with significant injuries.”
He urged anyone who recognises the suspects to contact police immediately on 101, quoting reference CAD 6988/20Dec19.
