Beware! Face Mask Phone Scams and Phishing Emails on the Rise
Fake Face Mask Sales Phone Calls – Don’t Take the Bait
Trading Standards have warned the public about dodgy phone calls pushing face masks at £29 each. These offers? Total scams. Crooks are exploiting fears and trying to steal your cash or bank details.
If you get one of these calls, hang up immediately. Don’t engage, and never share your card or bank info with strangers on the phone.
Phoney Apple Emails Targeting Shoppers
Residents have also reported scam emails pretending to be from Apple. These messages look legit and list orders you supposedly made, urging you to click links to “contact support” or log in to your Apple account.
It’s all a phishing trick to steal your personal info or payment details. Check the sender’s email – it’s never a genuine Apple address.
Don’t click any links. Delete these emails straight away.
TV Licensing Scam Hits Inbox
Another scam floats around claiming to be from TV Licensing. It falsely says your TV licence couldn’t be auto-renewed and instructs you to set up a new direct debit via a provided link.
This is a classic fraud attempt. Ignore and delete it immediately.
Stay alert and protect your money. If in doubt, report suspicious calls or emails to Trading Standards.
