Southampton Hotel Boss Hit with £1,000 Fine Over Secret Xmas Party

Hampshire police have slapped a £1,000 fixed penalty notice on the licensee of the Bitterne Park Hotel in Southampton for breaking Covid rules.

On the evening of 24 December, officers responded to reports of four people sneaking into the hotel for a party. When they arrived, they found about 40 guests in a staff-only area, drinking alcohol without eating and mingling mask-free.

The blatant breach saw officers quickly shut down the gathering and issue the summons to the licensee.

Council to Review Hotel Licence After Covid Rule Flouting

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed they are working with Southampton City Council to review the hotel’s licence following the incident.

“This was a blatant breach of the Health Protection Regulations that are in force to keep people safe during the pandemic,” said PC Mark Hawley of the police licensing team.

“The guidelines around hospitality are clear. It is very disappointing that a private party was held that put everyone at risk.”

“We are working with partners to deal swiftly with businesses or individuals who break the rules, reassuring the community.”

“Let this be a warning: breaches will be dealt with robustly to keep everyone safe.”
