Spitting Scumbag Jailed for Targeting NHS Worker During Pandemic

John Donoghue, 31, faces five months behind bars after spitting on an NHS staffer who was only trying to help him. The vile attack went down at Tunbridge Wells Hospital on the evening of Monday, 11 May 2020.

Spat At While Staff Tried Routine Checks

The victim, a dedicated NHS worker, had simply asked Donoghue to remove his coat so she could conduct routine medical checks. Instead of cooperating, Donoghue sat up and spat directly on her. A Kent Police officer on site witnessed the shameful assault and swiftly arrested him.

Quick Justice for Assault on Emergency Worker

Donoghue was charged the very next day and pled guilty at Medway magistrates just 24 hours later. He was slapped with a 20-week prison sentence, including activating a 12-week suspended term from a previous case.

Police Crack Down on Attacks Against NHS

Detective Inspector Joanna Lay of Kent Police said: “Spitting at an NHS worker is completely unacceptable, especially during a public health emergency, and Kent Police will always seek to take robust action against offenders.

“The victim and her colleagues are putting their health on the line daily, working tirelessly to treat those affected by Covid-19 and other medical issues. This man responded to her help with a disgusting spit attack.

“There is absolutely no excuse for his actions and the court has recognised this with an immediate custodial sentence.”

This case sends a stark warning: attack our NHS heroes, and you’ll pay the price behind bars.
