Gas Main Rupture Sparks Drama in TV Studio Basement

A six-inch gas main ruptured in the basement of a TV studio on Upper Ground, currently under refurbishment. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Swift Action as Firefighters Tackle Gas Leak

Station Commander Matt Williams, at the scene, revealed: “Road closures were in place whilst firefighters worked with partners to isolate the gas leak and make the scene safe.”

He added: “Around 90 people were evacuated from the site and neighbouring properties, and a 25-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution.”

Massive Fire Brigade Response

The Brigade was called at 5:27pm and wrapped up the operation by 9:35pm. Three fire engines from Dowgate, Soho, and Tooting, plus three rescue units from Euston, Bethnal Green, and Bexley fire stations, rushed to the scene.
