Banbury Beast Bites Off Man’s Ear in Pub Rampage

Paul Boss, 49, from Calthorpe Street, Banbury, has been slapped with a hefty jail term of six years and 10 months at Oxford Crown Court.

Brutal Pub Attack

On 30 August 2020, Boss lost it in the Three Pigeons pub on Southam Road. He hurled a pint glass at a staff member, barely missing his head. When a customer tried to intervene, Boss launched a savage attack, biting off part of the man’s ear.

The victim, a man in his thirties, suffered permanent damage needing plastic surgery.

Guilty Plea and Police Response

  • Boss pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • Also pleaded guilty to assault by beating
  • Racially aggravated common assault charge ordered to lie on file

He was arrested the very same day and charged the next.

“This was a horrific attack on an innocent member of the public and the landlord of the pub,” said Detective Constable Gareth Steward. “Boss set out to cause serious harm to someone that day for reasons that are only known to him. I hope this sentence provides some comfort to the victim who now has to carry the physical and mental scars of this assault with him.”
