Dozens Dial 999 as Flames Rage

Candle Sparks Dangerous Fire

The cause is thought to be a candle left unattended. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson warned: “Candles are one of the most common causes of fires in the home. Never leave them unattended and keep them away from curtains, furniture, or clothes.”

They added: “We recommend swapping traditional candles for safer flameless LED alternatives. But if you do use real candles, always place them in heat-resistant holders on a stable surface where they won’t be knocked over.”
