After plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the site, fire crews rushed to the Fawley refinery on Monday lunch after a blaze broke out within the fuel processing site.
Shortly after midday, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to assist onsite teams with a fire at the ExxonMobil site.
A large plume of smoke could be seen coming from the site.
A well-rehearsed plan firefighting plan was brought into operation with a large number of appliances being mobilised from Southampton and Portsmouth fire stations.
The incident was “quickly brought under control,” with several crews already returning to their stations the service has revealed.
A spokesman for ExxonMobil site said: We have experienced an isolated fire on one of our units that on-site emergency teams, with assistance from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, moved quickly and have safely contained the incident. There have been no injuries and all personnel are accounted for. As a result, we are currently having to use our flares. Please be assured that the use of our flares is completely safe and controlled. We apologise if the use of our flares causes any concern or disruption to our host community.
