Quick-Thinking Police Nab Suspect in Harwich Sexual Assault
Police swooped in Harwich early Sunday morning after a public tip-off raised serious concerns about a woman’s welfare on Garland Road.
Rapid Response Led to Fast Arrest
Officers from the Harwich Local Policing Team arrived at the scene just minutes after the 6:10am call. They quickly spoke to the woman and ensured she was safe.
Thanks to swift detective work, a 32-year-old man was identified as a person of interest. Within an hour, officers tracked him down in Harwich and arrested him on suspicion of serious sexual assault.
Victim Supported, Investigation Ongoing
“Officers in Harwich responded incredibly quickly to this call and that has meant we were very quickly able to identify someone we would like to speak to,” said Detective Chief Inspector Dan Morrissey of the Public Protection Unit. “Thanks to that work, we were able to make a really timely arrest.”
“The victim is now being supported by specialist officers, and our investigation is continuing at pace,” he added.
“For us, the safety of women and girls in Essex is paramount. We will always respond quickly and seek to bring perpetrators of crimes against women and girls to justice.”
