Police swooped on a Mansfield home and uncovered a massive cannabis farm hidden inside. Around 200 plants were found growing in rooms both upstairs and downstairs at the property on Chesterfield Road North.
Man Arrested After Major Cannabis Bust
The raid, carried out at 7am on Monday 27 March, led to the arrest of 35-year-old Irmantas Banaitas, who was inside the house at the time. Banaitas, with no fixed address, has now been charged with producing cannabis.
Court Date Set for Suspect
Banaitas appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court the following day and was remanded in custody. He is due back before Nottingham Crown Court on 25 April 2023.
Police Praise Public Tips and Warn of Risks
“It is always good news when we can seize and destroy illegal drugs. This raid uncovered a large cannabis grow on a residential street, which was putting nearby homes and the people who live in them at risk,” said PC Scott Loughran of Nottinghamshire Police.
“I am pleased we have now placed a suspect before the courts. Police teams acted on intelligence to carry out this investigation and I want to encourage members of the public to continue providing us with information about potential criminal activity in their community.”
All cannabis plants and growing equipment have now been removed from the property.
