British Cargo Ship Sinks In North Sea After Collision With Freight Vessel Polesie

Several individuals are feared missing following the reported sinking of a British cargo ship, the Verity, in the North Sea following a collision with another freight vessel named Polesie.

The Verity was en route from the German city of Bremen to Lincolnshire when it reportedly collided with the Polesie near Heligoland on Tuesday morning, as per reports from Bild.

The incident occurred approximately 14 miles southwest of the island of Helgoland, according to Germany’s Central Command for Maritime Emergencies. The collision led to the sinking of the British-flagged Verity, prompting an urgent search for those believed to be missing.

The Central Command for Maritime Emergencies confirmed that the search operation was underway, with rescuers actively seeking several individuals who remain unaccounted for. One person has been successfully rescued from the water and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The Verity was on its journey from Bremen, Germany, to the English port of Immingham when the collision occurred.

On the other hand, the Bahamas-flagged Polesie, involved in the collision, remained afloat with 22 individuals on board. The emergency command is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to ensure the safety of those onboard the Polesie.
