Two Hospitalised After Crash Near Blackwall Tunnel

Transport for London (TfL) has announced the closure of the southbound Blackwall Tunnel for a series of overnight works supporting the new Silvertown Tunnel, scheduled to open in 2025.

The southbound tunnel will be closed on weeknights from Tuesday, June 25 to Friday, June 28, between 11 pm and 5am each night.

During these closures, southbound traffic must find alternative routes, while northbound traffic and the Route 108 bus service will remain unaffected. The Route 108 bus will continue to operate through the tunnel with escort during the works.

In addition, the southbound Blackwall Tunnel will be closed from 12:01am on Saturday, June 29, until 5am on Monday, July 1.

TfL has advised that these overnight closures aim to minimize the need for future weekend closures, thereby reducing long-term disruptions. HGV and larger van drivers are encouraged to avoid central London routes during these closures.

To inform drivers, TfL will utilize variable messaging signs and third-party navigation apps such as Waze.

Transport for London appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as they undertake these essential works to improve London’s transport infrastructure.

For further updates and information on alternative routes, drivers are encouraged to check the TfL website or follow their social media channels.
