Blackwall Tunnel Shut Overnight for Silvertown Tunnel Work
Transport for London (TfL) is closing the southbound Blackwall Tunnel overnight next week. The closures, running from June 25 to June 28, support the upcoming Silvertown Tunnel set to open in 2025.
Nightly Closures and Weekend Blockade
- Southbound tunnel shut between 11pm and 5am from Tuesday to Friday nights.
- A full southbound closure from 12:01am Saturday, June 29, until 5am Monday, July 1.
Drivers heading south will need to find alternative routes. Northbound traffic and the Route 108 bus remain unaffected, with the bus escorted through the tunnel during works.
TfL Warns HGV Drivers and Provides Travel Tips
TfL wants to avoid longer weekend closures by doing this vital overnight work. It urges heavy goods vehicles and larger vans to steer clear of central London routes during these times.
To keep drivers in the loop, TfL is using electronic message boards and popular navigation apps like Waze.
