Sussex Police Seek Public’s Help After Surge in Retail Thefts
Sussex Police have launched a hunt for four suspects linked to a string of thefts. They’ve released photos and are urging anyone who recognises these individuals to come forward with information.
How You Can Help Catch the Thieves
If you recognise any of the people shown or have tips, contact Sussex Police online or call 101. Quote crime reference number 371 of 30/04 when reporting.
Retail Crime on the Rise as Staff Face Violence
This wave of thefts hits amid a huge spike in retail crime across the UK. The British Retail Consortium’s 2023 Crime Survey reveals violence and abuse towards shopworkers has nearly doubled, with 867 incidents recorded every single day.
Businesses are battling a £1 billion yearly loss from thefts and damage, plus over £700 million spent on crime prevention. Helen Dickinson OBE, Chief Executive of the BRC, warned, “Retailers are facing a £1 billion per year problem in theft and damage, on top of over £700 million in crime prevention costs.”
Calls Grow for Tougher Action and Police Support
As Sussex and police forces nationwide grapple with rising retail crimes, retailers and campaigners demand tougher sentencing for repeat offenders and more robust police backing.
Authorities stress that community cooperation is vital to protect staff and shoppers and to crack down on these dangerous incidents.
