Marks & Spencer Issues Urgent Recall for Butternut Squash Soup Due to Metal Contamination

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has issued an urgent warning to customers not to eat its Smooth Butternut Squash Soup due to possible contamination with small pieces of metal. The affected product is being recalled, and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a “do not eat” warning for soup with a use-by date of October 6.

An FSA spokesman said: “Marks & Spencer is recalling the above product. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

Consumers who have purchased the soup are advised not to eat it. Instead, they are urged to return the product to their nearest M&S store for a full refund. Anyone seeking more information can contact M&S customer service on 0333 014 8555.

An M&S spokesperson added: “Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer, and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously. Please do not consume this product. Any customers in possession of this product can return it to their nearest store where a full refund will be given. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.

What is a Product Recall?

A product recall occurs when there is an issue with a food product that makes it unsafe for sale. It can either be “withdrawn” from shelves or “recalled,” in which case customers are asked to return the product. The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities about food safety issues. In some cases, a “Food Alert for Action” is issued, which provides specific instructions to local authorities to act on behalf of consumers.

M&S has reassured customers that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure their safety and that they are committed to producing high-quality, safe products.
