Ramsgate Venues Recognised for Safety Commitment

Businesses in Ramsgate have been recognised by Kent Police for their dedication to promoting safer socialising and reducing alcohol-related crime through the “Best Bar None” accreditation scheme.

Best Bar None, a voluntary scheme supported by the Home Office and the drinks industry, aims to improve safety standards within the evening and night-time economy. The initiative has been active in Ramsgate since 2022, and on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the Best Bar None awards ceremony took place to recognise eight local businesses for their continued commitment to these principles.

Originally piloted in Manchester to reward responsible premises, the scheme has since expanded across the country with Kent Police working alongside local councils and partner agencies to establish Best Bar None in Ramsgate.

Participating venues have demonstrated their commitment to community safety by working with police, the council, and other businesses to reduce crime. To receive accreditation, venues must meet competency standards in four key areas: venue management, staff training and care, customer safety and welfare, and customer service and community involvement.

District Commander for Thanet, Chief Inspector Ian Swallow, said, “Businesses have a responsibility to help keep their customers safe, and by becoming part of this scheme, they can work alongside police and councils to ensure they are doing all they can to meet that aim. By striving for best practices and ensuring safe, licensed venues, Best Bar None can reduce crime and disorder associated with alcohol consumption. This also has a positive knock-on effect on Ramsgate as a whole, creating a safer environment for everyone.

The initiative is a collaborative effort to enhance safety in Ramsgate’s night-time economy, making it a safer and more enjoyable environment for both residents and visitors.
