Capital FM’s Jordan North Rescued from Thames After Heroic Dog Save
Capital FM presenter Jordan North was dramatically pulled from the River Thames by the RNLI after trying to rescue a struggling Labrador near Hammersmith Bridge.
The 34-year-old radio star spotted the dog in trouble during his evening run just after 5pm on Monday, 16 December. Without hesitation, North jumped in from a nearby pontoon to help – but soon found himself fighting for safety.
Quick-Thinking Bystanders Spark Swift Rescue
Onlookers raised the alarm, flashing phone torches to guide the Chiswick RNLI lifeboat crew to Jordan’s exact location.
The lifeboat team arrived fast, spotting North clinging to a float lift with the rescued dog. He was safely hauled out of the chilly Thames.
“A big thank you and a massive shout-out to RNLI Chiswick who came and rescued me because I was getting a bit panicky. I thought, ‘My legs are going to go, I can’t hold on much longer,’ so they got there just in time,” Jordan told Capital Breakfast.
“They put a blanket around me and made sure I was okay. They’re the real heroes here.”
RNLI Warns: Don’t Take the Plunge Unprepared
RNLI Thames Commander Gavin Simmons praised Jordan’s brave heart but urged caution:
“We’re on call 24/7, all year, ready to rescue anyone in trouble on the water – people or pets. But we strongly urge everyone not to enter water themselves. Instead, always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We’re just glad we got to Jordan and the dog in time to bring them back safely.”
RNLI Launches Christmas Fundraising Appeal Amid Busy Season
The daring rescue coincides with the RNLI’s annual Christmas fundraising campaign, spotlighting their vital lifesaving work over the festive period. On average, RNLI crews launch over 100 rescue missions at Christmas – helping people and pets caught in dangerous water incidents.
Jordan North, a fan favourite who was runner-up on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2020, is now winning hearts again – this time as an accidental hero of the Thames.
