A 12-year-old boy who tragically lost his life after being stabbed in the Hall Green area of Birmingham on Tuesday has been identified as Leo Ross, West Midlands Police confirmed.
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and remains in custody as investigations continue.
Incident Details
Police were alerted to reports of a stabbing near Scribers Lane around 3.40pm on Tuesday, January 21. Leo, a student at Christ Church C of E Secondary Academy, was found by a member of the public with a serious stomach injury. Paramedics provided emergency treatment, and he was rushed to hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries later that evening at around 7.30pm.
Tributes to Leo
Diane Henson, Executive Headteacher at Christ Church Academy, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Leo, describing him as “a lively and happy young man.”
She added:
“Leo was adored by his friends and was a bright member of the school community. We are supporting our students through this difficult time and will be opening a book of condolence with the family’s permission.”
Leo’s family has requested privacy during this heartbreaking time as they mourn their loss, supported by specialist officers.
Arrest and Further Investigations
The 14-year-old suspect was detained at 7pm on Tuesday at an address in Birmingham. West Midlands Police revealed he is also being investigated for an unrelated assault on a woman in her 80s on Sunday.
Chief Superintendent Richard North, commander of Birmingham Local Policing Area, called the stabbing an “appalling incident” and assured the public that detectives were “working round the clock” to uncover the truth.
