A woman in her 20s has tragically lost her life after being struck by a lorry on the M20 near Junction 9 for Ashford. Kent Police confirmed the fatal incident occurred shortly after 1pm on January 23, 2025, under the A28 Canterbury Road bridge in Kennington.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a serious collision. It was initially believed that the woman had fallen from the bridge into the path of the oncoming vehicle. Despite the swift response of emergency teams, the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have since informed the woman’s family, though formal identification has yet to take place. A police spokesperson confirmed that a report is being prepared for the coroner.

In the wake of the incident, the coastbound carriageway of the M20 between Junction 8 for Maidstone and Junction 10 for Ashford was closed for several hours, causing significant disruption. The road was reopened at 9.30pm after investigations were completed. The London-bound route was briefly closed but reopened within an hour of the incident.

Kent Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, and they have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
