Motorists are facing significant delays on the M25 today following a serious collision involving two lorries and a car, which has brought traffic to a standstill in both directions between Kent and Essex.

The incident occurred at around 12:20 PM on the M25 clockwise at Junction 1b (A296 Dartford), just before the QEII Bridge.
The collision has led to the complete closure of the road in both directions, causing extensive congestion.

Traffic Chaos and Long Delays
Traffic is heavily congested on the clockwise carriageway, with delays stretching back to Junction 30 (A13 Lakeside) and queuing over the QEII Bridge. Motorists on the anticlockwise side are also experiencing long delays due to onlookers and residual congestion.

A spokesperson for National Highways confirmed: “The M25 is currently blocked in both directions following a collision involving two lorries and a car. Emergency services are on the scene, and efforts are underway to clear the vehicles involved. Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible and to expect significant delays.”
Traffic has been completely stopped under the junction since 12:20 PM, though vehicles can still access Junction 2 (A2) via the roundabout.

Emergency Services On Scene
Emergency services, including paramedics, police, and fire crews, are on-site responding to the incident. There is no confirmation yet regarding injuries, but medical teams are attending to those involved.
The Kent Fire and Rescue Service has been assisting in clearing the wreckage and ensuring the safety of the area, particularly given concerns over potential fuel spills from the lorries.
Driver Warnings and Alternative Routes
Motorists are being urged to find alternative routes to avoid the area and to check travel updates before starting their journeys.
National Highways has issued the following advice for drivers:
- Clockwise drivers: Exit at Junction 30 (A13) and take alternative routes towards Dartford.
- Anticlockwise drivers: Avoid the QEII Bridge and consider using the Blackwall Tunnel or Dartford Crossing as alternatives.
Travel time through the affected area is currently estimated to be over two hours.
Witness Appeal
The Metropolitan Police and Kent Police are jointly investigating the incident and are appealing for witnesses.
“If you witnessed the collision or have dashcam footage that could help us understand how this happened, please get in touch,” said a Kent Police spokesperson.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Kent Police on 101, quoting incident reference M25/12:20/20FEB.
Ongoing Disruption Expected
With the road still blocked as of the latest update, it is unclear when the M25 will fully reopen. Recovery teams are working to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the road, but authorities have warned that disruption is expected to last into the evening rush hour.
