Package Pilfered on Langham Road: CCTV Catches Thief in the Act
Parcel Snatched Amid Rising Crime Near Turnpike Lane
A Langham Road resident near Turnpike Lane Station has fallen victim yet again to doorstep thieves. At 4:36pm on Tuesday, February 25, an Amazon package was stolen from their doorstep. Although partially concealed, CCTV footage caught the suspect prowling the area and even peeking at a neighbour’s door before grabbing the parcel.
Repeated Thefts Spark Fury Over Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN)
This marks the fourth or fifth time the victim’s deliveries have been pinched, triggering alarm bells about a spike in crime since the Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme went permanent.
“Since the council introduced the LTN scheme, the street has become unsafe. They’ve cut down traffic but pushed crime up,” the frustrated resident said bluntly.
Crime Soars as New Scheme Reduces Street Visibility
The LTN was designed to cut through-traffic in residential zones, gaining praise for its environmental aims. But locals remain split. While some cheer cleaner air, others blame the scheme for hiding suspicious characters and making it easier for thieves to strike unseen.
Beyond stolen parcels, residents have reported smashed car windows and vehicle break-ins — a problem unheard of before the LTN’s arrival.
Residents Warned: Boost Security, Report Suspicious Behaviour
- Stay alert for suspicious activity
- Consider installing CCTV cameras
- Report crimes immediately to police
With crime on the rise, locals are urged to step up vigilance and protect their property.
