A major fire and suspected explosion have been reported at a  massive power station near to the new building construction site on Nestles Avenue in Hayes, west London, late on Thursday night (20 March 2025), prompting a large-scale response from emergency services.

The incident upfolded at around 11.30pm, was swiftly escalated  with multiple fire crews and specialist teams dispatched to the scene. Witnesses reported seeing flames and hearing a loud explosion from Recina Court, located near the site.

According to early reports, the fire was well-developed by the time London Fire Brigade arrived, with flames visible from surrounding areas. Residents described a loud bang followed by plumes of smoke billowing into the night sky.

Emergency services, including fire engines and hazardous response units are now arriving on North Hyde Gardens, near the junction with North Hyde Road, to coordinate operations.

As of now, there are no reported injuries, but firefighters are continuing to tackle the blaze and assess structural risks. Police have also cordoned off parts of the area to protect the public and support emergency crews.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire and explosion remains unknown, and a formal investigation is expected to be launched once the site is secured. London Fire Brigade officials at the scere are urging the public to stay away from the area while operations continue.

“This was a significant fire incident at a construction site. Multiple crews and specialist units are in attendance. We are working hard to bring the situation under control,” a fire service spokesperson said.

More details are expected to be released by the London Fire Brigade in due course as firefighters bring the blaze under control and assess the damage.

Residents in the surrounding area have been asked to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.
