Huge blaze and explosion rock power station near Hayes construction site
A major fire and suspected explosion tore through a massive power station close to the new building site on Nestles Avenue, Hayes, west London, late Thursday night (20 March 2025). Emergency services launched a massive response after the incident ignited around 11.30pm.
Flames and Bangs Shake Local Area
Witnesses blasted reports of a loud explosion followed by huge flames shooting skyward from Recina Court, just yards from the power station. The fire was already raging fiercely when London Fire Brigade crews arrived, with plumes of smoke visible for miles. Residents described a terrifying bang that shook the night.
Massive Emergency Response Underway
Firefighters, hazardous material units, and specialist teams rushed to North Hyde Gardens near the junction with North Hyde Road, where the fire is being tackled. Police quickly cordoned off the area to keep onlookers safe and aid fire crews on the ground. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far, but the situation is ongoing as teams battle the blaze and check for structural dangers.
Probe Launched as Cause Remains Unknown
Authorities have yet to determine what sparked the fire and explosion. A formal investigation is set to begin once the scene is secure. Fire service officials are urging people to stay well clear of the area while operations continue.
“This was a significant fire incident at a construction site. Multiple crews and specialist units are in attendance. We are working hard to bring the situation under control,” a London Fire Brigade spokesperson said.
Residents Warned to Stay Indoors
Smoke from the blaze has prompted warnings for locals to keep windows and doors shut until the air quality improves. More updates are expected from the London Fire Brigade as firefighters gain the upper hand and assess the damage.
