A27 Westbound Closed Following Serious Collision in West Sussex

A section of the A27 westbound between the A284 at Arundel and the A29 at Fontwell has been closed following a serious collision, prompting an ongoing police investigation and lengthy travel disruption.

National Highways confirmed that the closure, which affects a key route through West Sussex, is expected to remain in place throughout the night as emergency services continue their work at the scene.

Police Investigation Underway

Due to the serious nature of the incident, police have launched a formal investigation, and motorists are being urged to avoid the area where possible. While details of the collision have not yet been released, authorities say the closure is necessary to preserve the scene and gather evidence.

There are currently no significant delays reported at the point of closure near Arundel, but drivers are being advised to expect disruption and plan ahead.

Diversion Routes in Place

Motorists heading westbound are being directed to follow the ‘Hollow Triangle’ diversion symbol along the following route:

  • Exit the A27 at the Ford Road / Arundel Bypass roundabout.
  • Head north on the A284 toward the B2139/A29 roundabout.
  • At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A29 and continue for approximately four miles.
  • Rejoin the A27 westbound at the A27/A29 Fontwell roundabout.

National Highways is advising drivers to allow extra journey time or consider delaying travel plans if the closure impacts their intended route.

Travel Advisory

Drivers are urged to check live traffic updates before setting off and to exercise caution when using unfamiliar diversion routes.

Further updates on the incident and road reopening times will be provided as soon as they become available.
