A 39-year-old man has died after falling from a bridge over the A303 Mere Bypass late on Monday night (April 14), Wiltshire Police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11pm, following reports that a pedestrian had fallen from the overpass onto the A303 carriageway near Mere.
Despite the best efforts of responders, the man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist officers. Police described it as an “incredibly difficult time” for the man’s family and extended their condolences.
The road was closed overnight while investigation teams worked at the scene. It has since fully reopened, though inquiries are ongoing.
Police Appeal
Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses or dash cam footage from anyone who may have been travelling in the area around the time of the incident.
