Semi-Truck Hauling Petroleum Erupts in Flames, Shuts Down I-65 in Jasper County, Indiana

A major traffic incident unfolded Monday in Jasper County after a semi-truck reportedly hauling petroleum caught fire, forcing the closure of all lanes on Interstate 65.

According to initial reports from WXIN, the dramatic blaze erupted in the Roselawn area, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Flames and thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the vehicle, drawing concern from passing motorists and nearby residents.

The Indiana State Police confirmed that both directions of I-65 were temporarily shut down as firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent potential explosions due to the highly flammable cargo. Hazmat teams were also deployed to assess environmental risks and ensure public safety.

At this stage, there have been no reports of injuries, and the driver of the semi-truck is believed to have escaped safely.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes, with long delays reported during the evening commute. The fire was eventually brought under control, but cleanup and road repairs are expected to take several hours, potentially impacting traffic into Tuesday morning.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, which remains unknown. Officials will also examine whether the truck was in compliance with safety and transportation regulations related to hazardous materials.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
