Two Arrested After Gunfire Erupts in Newham Street
Chaos hit Newham this afternoon as police swooped on a firearm discharge that left one man injured and sparked a major emergency response. The drama unfolded on Upton Lane, E7 at around 2:42pm on Tuesday, April 29, when gunshots rang out in a quiet residential street.
Three Hurt in Shooting, One Hospitalised
Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene. A man suffering a gunshot wound was treated and taken to hospital, where his condition is thankfully not life-threatening. Two others were treated for head injuries at the scene, but their injuries are not described as serious.
Quick Police Action Leads to Two Arrests
Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s North East Command acted fast, arresting two suspects linked to the shooting. One of those detained is still in hospital with minor injuries. Police have also recovered the firearm used and have sealed off Upton Lane as forensic teams carry out their work.
Local Community Left Shaken but Reassured
“We know this shooting on a residential street has shocked the local community,” said Chief Inspector Daryl Jones of North East Command. “We’re pleased to have arrested two people and recovered a firearm within hours of the incident. Residents with concerns should speak to the officers on site or contact neighbourhood policing teams.”
Authorities urge locals to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.
