David Beckham Knighted in King’s Birthday Honours 2025
Football legend David Beckham has been handed a knighthood in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours for his stellar services to sport and charity. The former England captain, who turned 50 last month, called the accolade “immensely proud” and “truly humbling.”
Born and bred in Leytonstone, East London, Beckham has become a British icon and global ambassador for change.
“Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour,” said Sir David.
Football Legend’s Glorious Career
Beckham’s football achievements speak volumes. He earned 115 England caps, captaining the side 59 times. He smashed league titles in four countries:
- England with Manchester United
- Spain with Real Madrid
- USA with LA Galaxy
- France with PSG
He was a key player in Manchester United’s historic 1999 Champions League win, cementing his place as a club legend.
“All of us at Manchester United offer our warm congratulations to David Beckham on this richly-deserved honour. David, we salute your achievements and thank you for your tremendous contribution,” the club said.
Beckham’s Global Impact Off the Pitch
Since hanging up his boots in 2013, Beckham has co-founded and co-owns Inter Miami CF, the MLS club that grabbed headlines by landing Lionel Messi.
He’s also committed to humanitarian causes for years. A Unicef UK ambassador since 2005, he was named an ambassador for The King’s Foundation last year.
Philip Goodwin, CEO of Unicef UK, praised Beckham: “David Beckham has done an incredible amount to advocate for children’s rights over the last 20 years. We are grateful for all of his support that has done a huge amount to amplify the voices of children around the world.”
An Enduring British Icon
Beckham’s influence transcends football. A 2023 Netflix documentary series showcased his life and legacy to millions worldwide. He remains a top figure among global brands and public figures.
“It will take a little while for the news to sink in but I’m immensely proud, and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family,” Sir David added.
