East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) were called at 2:09am on 29 September 2025 to tackle a large vehicle fire on Brighton Road. The blaze started on a bus heading east between Lewes and Falmer but quickly spread, engulfing the petrol station shop and triggering a major incident.
Heroic Firefighters Battle Blaze with Breathing Apparatus and Foam Jets
- Four fire engines from Preston Circus, Hove, and Roedean rushed to the scene.
- Firefighters initially used two breathing apparatus sets and two foam jets to control the flames.
- By 3:30am, the response escalated to six breathing apparatus sets, two foam jets, and one main jet to bring the fire under control.
Sussex Police have been managing severe traffic disruption while crews continue their tough fight against the blaze.
