South East Rail Chaos Grips Thousands After Two Shocking Incidents

Rail travel in England’s South East has been thrown into chaos today after two separate incidents brought key routes to a standstill. Thousands of frustrated passengers faced severe delays and cancellations as services ground to a halt.

Trains Halted After Two People Struck by Trains

The nightmare began early this morning when a person was hit by a train near Luton, forcing the complete shutdown of the Thameslink line northbound. Then, before 11am, disaster struck again at Three Bridges station, where another person was hit by a train. This incident stopped all services between Heath and Gatwick Airport.

Gatwick Station Evacuated Over Dangerous Overcrowding

With no trains running, Gatwick Airport’s train station was forced to evacuate amid severe overcrowding. An airport spokesperson said:

“Gatwick Airport train station has been evacuated due to overcrowding.”

Thousands of passengers were left stranded, desperately trying to catch flights or connect with arrivals. The turmoil spilled onto the roads, triggering heavy traffic jams on the M23 spur leading to Gatwick.

Slow Rail Recovery—Delays to Continue All Day

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), operator of Southern and Thameslink services, is scrambling to restore normal operations. While some lines may reopen soon, Three Bridges station remains closed for the day. GTR warned commuters to brace for ongoing delays and cancellations due to disrupted crews and trains.

Passengers are urged to expect substantial travel disruption across Southern and Thameslink routes throughout the day.
