Isle of Wight Killer Jailed for Over 24 Years for Murder of Ex-Councillor Gerard White

An Isle of Wight man has been locked up for 24 years and six months for the brutal murder of former councillor Gerard White.

Killer Admits Murder After Denial

Jonathan Christopher Stasiuk, 60, of Pier Street, Sandown, threw in the towel at southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday 12 November, admitting to the murder. He’d earlier denied the charge and tried to plead manslaughter, claiming diminished responsibility — but the court wasn’t having it.

Murder Scene and Shocking Details

The disturbing attack happened on Monday 27 May in Lake Community Gardens, near Scotchells Brook Lane. It was Stasiuk himself who called the police, reporting the crime. However, officers arriving at the scene found 73-year-old Mr White of Talbot Road, Sandown, dead.

“Gerry’s family is relieved that the accused has admitted being ‘guilty of murder’,” said Mr White’s wife, Lee.

“Heartfelt thanks to the police, prosecution, court staff, and all involved in the investigation and trial for their hard work in reaching this outcome.”
