Man held over rape of 3-year-old girl in Yarmouth as police hunt Dash Cam footage

Police investigating the horrific sexual assault of a three-year-old girl at Fort Victoria Country Park in Yarmouth have extended their questioning of a 60-year-old man by 24 hours. They are now urgently appealing for Dash Cam footage from drivers who were in the area.

Grim attack in Fort Victoria Park

The unimaginably disturbing incident happened just after 3pm on Monday, 31 August, when the toddler was seriously assaulted in a wooded part of the park. A 60-year-old man, believed to live in Freshwater, was quickly arrested and remains in custody as detectives continue their hunt for answers.

Police call for crucial Dash Cam and witness tips

Detective Chief Inspector Liam Davies said: “Officers have been working around the clock and have been granted an extra 24 hours to question a man in his 60s arrested in connection with this attack.

“We urge anyone who drove into Fort Victoria Country Park via Westhill Lane between 11.30am and 4pm on 31 August to check their Dash Cam footage. You may have recorded something vital without realising it.”

“We’re also appealing to dog walkers and any park visitors that day. We’ve already spoken to two dog walkers who interacted with the victim’s mother, but we believe many more were there. Please contact us with any information or details of others who were in the park.”

Police pledge support and vigilance

Superintendent Sarah Jackson, Isle of Wight’s District Commander, added: “Thank you to everyone supporting this investigation by sharing appeals and speaking with officers.”

“Additional patrols remain on site, so if you’re in the area and have concerns or information, please approach our officers or contact police.”
