Man Found Guilty of Fatal Stabbing in Skegness

Paul Bodell, 37, of Grosvenor Road, Skegness, was found guilty by a jury after a 13-day trial. He will be sentenced on a date yet to be confirmed and remains in custody.

Fatal Stabbing Over Knife Violence

Victim Paul Barnett, 46, died from a single stab wound to his chest after an altercation with Bodell on Grosvenor Road at around 10:15pm on 22nd September 2020. Despite desperate efforts by bystanders and East Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics, Mr Barnett was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Warn Against Carrying Knives

“This was a brutal attack with an unwarranted level of violence. A man’s family have been devastated by this senseless incident,” said Detective Chief Inspector Richard Myszczyszyn of East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU).

“Had Bodell left the knife at home, the outcome would have been very different. This case shows the grave dangers of carrying knives in public.”

“Lincolnshire Police take all incidents involving weapons extremely seriously. Even if you don’t intend to use a knife, carrying one puts lives at risk.”

“Thanks go to the witnesses who helped secure this conviction. We hope this brings some closure to Mr Barnett’s family and the local community.”
