East London thug jailed for robbing pregnant woman and husband

Robbery horror on couple’s doorstep

Fred Odum-Jones, 38, of Lewisham, was locked up for four and a half years on 2 November at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to robbery, assault by beating, and dangerous driving.

The shocking attack happened on the evening of 20 July. A young couple, just back from dinner in central London, were followed into their Tower Hamlets block. The husband, in his 20s, was carrying a bag full of cash and jewellery.

Violence escalates – pregnant wife targeted

Two thugs forced their way into the communal area, punching the man multiple times before snatching his bag. The wife, six months pregnant at the time, tried to step in — but was shoved aside.

Odum-Jones and his partner didn’t stop there. After kicking the husband as he lay on the floor, they fled. The victim bravely chased them to a waiting car, grabbing at the bag. The crooks sped off, dragging him along until he was forced to let go.

Both victims needed hospital treatment. Thankfully, the pregnant woman escaped unharmed. The man suffered cuts to his face and body.

Cunning CCTV helps cops crack case

Central East CID launched a swift investigation. Thanks to detailed CCTV footage, detectives soon identified Odum-Jones. He was arrested at home three days later on 23 July and charged.

DC Tom Lynch-Lawton, Central East CID, said: “This was an absolutely terrifying experience for the victims on their own doorstep. Odum-Jones and his associate showed no regard for the safety of the victims — especially a visibly pregnant woman — as they targeted cash and jewellery.

Their callousness was clear when they continued assaulting the man while he lay prone on the floor. The streets of London are safer with Odum-Jones behind bars. We are still hunting the second suspect.”

Police hunt for second suspect

Detectives have released images of a man they want to speak to. He is described as black, around 30s, stocky build, wearing a white t-shirt, black jogging bottoms, white trainers, and a black hat.
