£19K of Dodgy Ciggies Snatched in Barking and Dagenham Raids
Over £19,000 worth of illegal tobacco has been ripped off the streets in a no-nonsense crackdown across Barking and Dagenham.
25,000 Fake Fags and Secret Stashes Found
Trading standards officers hit six shops after undercover tip-offs and complaints. In just two days, they seized 25,000 illicit cigarettes plus 100+ packs of hand-rolling tobacco hidden in sneaky secret compartments.
On September 25 and 27, raids swept through 13 spots known for selling dodgy tobacco, especially targeting places that failed previous test buys.
Tobacco-Sniffing Dogs Bloodhound Criminals
Specialist tobacco detection dogs sniffed out products stashed in hidden chutes and traps. The estimated street value of the haul? A whopping £19,061.
Illegal tobacco isn’t just a health risk — it fuels organised crime, people trafficking, and exploitation.
“This operation sends a clear message that we will not tolerate illegal tobacco sales in our borough,” said Councillor Syed Ghani, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety. “These products not only harm public health but also fuel criminal networks. I want to thank our trading standards team for their tireless work in protecting residents and keeping our communities safe.”
