Huge Crackdown on Parking Fraud Rocks Barking and Dagenham

Last month, Barking and Dagenham Council teamed up with police for a fierce one-day blitz against parking scams and vehicle offences. Known as Operation Cubo, the crackdown crushed fraudsters, clamping and removing 13 cars and cancelling multiple dodgy permits.

Fraudsters Targeted – Permits Axed on the Spot

  • 25 penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued, including to three oversized vehicles flaunting invalid permits.
  • Seven cars towed for using fake permits, some carrying three or more unpaid fines.
  • Four more vehicles seized over dodgy insurance and fake DVLA paperwork.
  • Over 50 Blue Badges checked – several fakes confiscated immediately.
  • Six bogus QR code stickers found, scamming residents out of parking fees.
  • Two uninsured vehicles impounded by street enforcement teams.

Arrests Made as Officials Pledge Tough Action

Two arrests were made during the swoop, including one wanted for drink-driving.

“This operation shows the strength of partnership working in tackling fraud and keeping our streets safe,” said Councillor Syed Ghani, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety. “From permit abuse to Blue Badge misuse and even scams targeting residents, we’re taking firm action to protect our communities.”

Barking & Dagenham Police neighbourhood Supt Premnath Biju added: “Operation Cubo demonstrates the impact of strong partnership working. By targeting vehicle offences, permit fraud and unsafe practices, we are protecting residents and keeping our streets safe.”

The successful operation leaned heavily on tips from residents, sharp-eyed frontline workers, and targeted patrols in trouble spots. The council praised everyone involved for making Barking and Dagenham safer for residents, workers, and shoppers alike.
