Carlo Di Tella Found Guilty of Rape
Carlo Di Tella, 46, from Bohemia Road, St Leonards, was convicted of two counts of raping a woman he knew. The attacks happened in January 2023 while the victim was asleep. A jury at Lewes Crown Court took just two hours to deliver a unanimous guilty verdict on October 27.
Victim Hailed for Bravery
The victim, who must remain anonymous, showed incredible courage by reporting the crimes to police. Specialist officers supported her every step of the way during the investigation and trial. Sussex Police publicly praised her strength.
“The jury reached a unanimous decision within two hours on October 27. This was a complex investigation and we were determined to get justice for the victim, who was extremely brave and courageous when she reported the rape almost three years ago. She continued to support the investigation through the trial process. It shows we take reports of rape extremely seriously, and we encourage victims of rape and serious sexual offences to report their experience to the police.” – PC Sally Smith, investigating officer
Sentencing Scheduled for January
Di Tella is still in custody and will be sentenced on 16 January next year. Sussex Police urged other victims of sexual assault to come forward, promising sensitive and thorough investigations.
