A man has been charged after two daring armed robberies hit Ashford shops on Boxing Day morning.

Armed Robber Strikes Twice in Ashford Shops

Police rushed to two separate incidents on Hythe Road, Willesborough, and St Katherine’s Crescent, Sellindge, on 26 December 2025. Staff were threatened at gunpoint – or what looked like a gun – as the robber made off with cash and cigarettes.

Anthony Ponter Arrested: Facing Multiple Charges

Later the same day, cops nabbed 39-year-old Anthony Ponter, who is homeless. He now faces two counts of robbery, two counts involving an imitation firearm, plus possession of cannabis, and driving offences including no insurance and no proper licence.

Remanded in Custody, Court Date Set

Ponter was remanded in custody and will appear at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 December.
