Police Dad’s Heartbreaking Plea After Losing Wife, Kids & Dog in Boxing Day Blaze

Devastation Hits Family on Boxing Day

A devoted dad and police officer, Tom Shearman, has been left shattered after a deadly fire claimed the lives of his wife, two young children, and their dog on Boxing Day. The tragic blaze engulfed their beloved Cotswold stone cottage in Briscombe, leaving the home in ruins.

Seven-year-old Eve, four-year-old Ohner, and mum Fionnghuala—known as Nu—were all trapped as the roof collapsed and stairs caved in. Firefighters fought valiantly to rescue the family, but the flames proved fatal. Police say the fire started on the ground floor and do not suspect foul play.

A Father’s Gut-Wrenching Tribute

“I have stared at my keypad for what seems like an eternity waiting for the words to appear. I cannot begin to describe the anguish and trauma of the events of Boxing Day 2025. My family had its very core, its very essence, ripped from it in the most violent way.” – Tom Shearman

Tom opened up about the nightmare that tore his world apart. He thanked neighbours and well-wishers for rallying around him with food, clothes, shelter, and kindness — small comforts during his darkest hours.

Determined to keep their memory alive, Tom vowed to honour Nu’s passion for craft and design and his children’s love of books and kindness.

“Please take every opportunity to hug your loved ones and tell them you love them. One day, there might not be any more time to do the things you want. Do it now.” – Tom Shearman

The local community has sprung into action, raising over £160,000 to help Tom rebuild his life after the horrific tragedy. Emergency crews and neighbours were praised for their bravery and compassion during the terrifying Boxing Day blaze.

Tom’s heartbreaking message is clear: never take your loved ones for granted — cherish every moment you have.
