A reckless drink-driver has been locked up for eight years after a crash in Castleford killed his teenage passenger.
Tragic After-Party Spin Ends in Disaster
Jamie Bouncer, 22, borrowed a VW Golf from a Castleford address following an after-party. In the early hours of 12 January last year, he took the car along Wheldon Road with 18-year-old Taylor Lupton and the car’s 21-year-old owner.
Seconds later, Bouncer, who only had a provisional licence, lost control. The car smashed through a fence into Yorkshire Water grounds before crashing into a disused water treatment tank.
Teen Passenger Killed, Owner Seriously Injured
Taylor Lupton, a dad of two, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered fatal head injuries. The car’s owner was seriously hurt but survived.
Bouncer, from Hall Street, Pontefract, admitted to causing death by dangerous driving, drink-driving, driving without insurance, and without a full licence. Investigators say he was speeding in freezing, wet, and dark conditions.
More than an hour after the crash, Bouncer’s breath test showed 57 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml, well above the legal limit of 35.
Family’s Heartbreak: “Taylor’s Future Was Stolen”
“I live with a constant sense of numbness, fear, and disbelief. I still cannot fully process that he is gone and not coming back,” said Taylor’s girlfriend, Megan Carswell. “Our son will never meet his daddy. Taylor will never meet his son. Our boy will only know his dad through photos and stories.” “I found out I was pregnant 10 days after Taylor died. Taylor’s 11-month-old daughter still looks at his photos and says ‘daddy.’ His future was stolen by the defendant. This loss will haunt us forever.”
Bouncer was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court and banned from driving for 10 years and four months.
