Police are probing a fatal single-vehicle smash on the M23 Northbound between Junctions 10 and 9 in the early hours of Thursday, April 2.
Deadly Collision at Dawn
Emergency services were called just before 5am after a car reportedly left the northbound carriageway. The vehicle is believed to have veered off the main road before crashing.
Victims and Arrest
- A 23-year-old London woman, a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been notified.
- Another passenger, a 23-year-old London man, suffered serious injuries and is in hospital.
- The driver, a 21-year-old London man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
Police Appeal and Road Closure
“This is a tragic incident and we are actively investigating the full circumstances of what happened,” said Inspector Matt Wightwick. “The victims and their families are at the forefront of our minds during what must be an unbelievably difficult time. We appreciate the public’s patience with the ongoing road closure, especially those heading to the airport. The northbound carriageway remains closed for investigation and vehicle recovery. We will reopen it as soon as it is safe.”
Police urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. Information can be emailed to the investigation team, quoting Operation Dorset.
