The Met Police are fully backing an independent inquiry after a deadly road collision in Wimbledon claimed two lives.
Tragedy at Study Prep School
In July 2023, Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau tragically died following a collision outside the Study Prep School. Several others suffered injuries in the crash.
Initial Investigation Called Into Question
- The Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC) first investigated the crash.
- The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided no further action was needed against the driver.
- Families of Nuria and Selena raised serious concerns about the investigation outcome.
- The Met’s Specialist Crime Review Group (SCRG) conducted a thorough review, uncovering new leads.
Fresh Inquiry Launched
- In October 2024, a reinvestigation began under the Specialist Crime Command.
- Complaints from families in July 2025 triggered further scrutiny.
- Professional concerns about the initial probe led the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) to refer the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
- The IOPC is now running a full independent investigation, including allegations against 11 officers.
Officers Under the Microscope
- Four serving officers and one former officer face gross misconduct investigations, including senior ranks:
- Commander, Detective Chief Inspector, Detective Sergeant, Detective Constable, and a former Detective Inspector.
- Two more serving detectives are under misconduct investigation.
- Notices don’t guarantee disciplinary action but mark serious inquiries.
New Evidence and Arrest
The reinvestigating team made fresh breakthroughs last year, arresting a woman connected to the case. Evidence was handed to the CPS on 17 March 2026. Prosecutors are still reviewing before making a charging decision.
Commander Charmain Brenyah Speaks Out
“Our thoughts remain with Nuria and Selena’s families, as well as everyone impacted by this terrible tragedy. We understand this prolonged process has compounded their grief and suffering. It is right that our initial handling of this incident be independently scrutinised, and we will provide every assistance to the IOPC as their investigation continues.”
