Firefighters tackle field blaze near Boreham Hill as residents warned to shut windows

Firefighters have brought a field fire near Boreham Hill in East Sussex under control after smoke from the blaze prompted a warning to local residents. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 1pm on Saturday, August 8, following reports of a fire in a field close to the A271 at Boreham Street. The incident prompted a significant emergency response as crews worked to prevent the flames from spreading further across the field. By 1.53pm, four fire engines, two 4×4 vehicles and two fire officers were at the scene. Police were also deployed to assist with traffic management while firefighters tackled the blaze.

Residents told to close windows and doors

People living nearby were advised to avoid the area while the emergency response was underway. Residents affected by smoke were also asked to keep their windows and doors closed. Fire crews made steady progress and succeeded in extinguishing the blaze shortly after 2pm. In an update issued at 2.09pm, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire had been put out and the incident was being scaled down. Crews subsequently began leaving the scene. The cause of the fire has not yet been stated.
