Tragic Blaze in Clapham: Person Dies in Early Morning Car Fire
Families in Clapham were left reeling after a fatal fire tore through a car on Clarence Avenue in the early hours of Tuesday, December 27. Emergency services raced to the scene following reports of a vehicle ablaze just after 2.20am.
Shocking Scenes as Flames Engulf Vehicle
A neighbour described the terrifying moment when the fire broke out. “It was around 3 a.m. when I turned off the light. I started seeing all these flashing lights about 3.30 a.m. When I pulled back the curtain, all I could see were huge red flames coming from the house,” they said.
Investigation Launched Into Cause of Fire
Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade battled the blaze but sadly found a person inside the vehicle who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Met Police confirmed officers arrived at 2:34am and have launched an investigation.
A Met Police spokesman said: “After the fire was extinguished, the body of a person was found inside the car. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are in the process of identifying the person. The death is being treated as unexpected and further enquiries are taking place to establish the circumstances.”
Specialists from the LFB Fire Investigation team have been called in to determine the exact cause of the fatal blaze. Families and locals remain stunned as the inquiry continues.
