Blaze Ravages Midhurst Hotel Roof, Spreads to Nearby Buildings
Firefighters raced to a massive blaze ripping through the roof space of a hotel on North Street, Midhurst, in the early hours of Thursday, March 16. The flames have since leapt to surrounding properties, turning the scene into a major emergency.
Massive Fire Response Mobilised
At 1:08am, Joint Fire Control dispatched an enormous rescue effort: 15 fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, two water carriers, an off-road vehicle, and a high volume pump were scrambled to tackle the blaze.
Fire crews arrived to find a serious fire in the hotel roof space, already spreading fast. They’re battling hard to control the inferno and expect to remain on site for hours.
Evacuations and Safety Warnings
- More than 30 people have been safely evacuated from the hotel and nearby buildings.
- A relief centre is now open in Midhurst to support those displaced by the fire.
- Residents are urged to keep windows and doors shut due to the heavy smoke plume.
North Street remains closed and is expected to be off-limits for some time. Commuters and locals should plan alternative routes.
