Greenhithe Clampdown: Dispersal Order Targets Anti-Social Trouble by the Lake
Police have slapped a dispersal order over Greenhithe to tackle nuisance caused by rowdy groups near a local lake. The order, covering Castleridge Drive, Havelock Drive and the lakeside, came into force on Tuesday 15 June and runs until 1.45pm on Thursday 17 June.
Nuisance on the Rise: 56 Complaints Spark Swift Action
Officers acted after 56 calls flooded in between 12 and 14 June, reporting loud noise, reckless moped riding, and threatening behaviour. The troublemakers even caused criminal damage to a buoyancy aid, signs, and shrubs around the lake.
Zero Tolerance: Police Can Order Troublemakers to Leave or Face Arrest
Thanks to the dispersal order, cops can now break up any gathering or single person suspected of causing or about to cause anti-social behaviour. Anyone refusing to comply faces the risk of arrest.
On Tuesday, patrol officers dispersed a group of youths and took possession of a moped linked to the disturbances.
Inspector Sarah Rivett, Dartford Community Safety Unit, said: “While we appreciate people want to enjoy the hot summer, it cannot be at the expense of others. Only a very small number engage in anti-social behaviour, but its impact on the community is far-reaching.
“That’s why we’ve introduced this order and won’t hesitate to take further action if needed.”
