Met Office Issues Level 3 Cold Weather Alert for Sussex and Beyond
The Met Office has slammed a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert across Sussex and parts of the UK starting today, January 16, 2023, running until Friday morning. Brace yourselves for a biting chill!
Bone-Chilling Cold to Grip Most of the UK This Week
The Met Office warns: “Cold air has pushed south overnight from Sunday into Monday, gripping much of the country. Expect widespread frost as daytime temps struggle to creep above freezing.”
Alongside icy winds, wintry showers will lash coastal areas, creeping inland with brisk north to northwesterly gusts. Icy patches may cause disruption and hazards on the roads and pavements.
There’s some hope for the southwest, where temperatures might edge back up later in the week. But don’t bank on a mild weekend just yet — forecasts remain uncertain.
Stay Safe: Top Tips to Beat the Bitter Cold
- Check in on vulnerable friends and family, making sure they have warm food and drinks.
- Keep indoor temps at least 18°C, especially if you’re elderly, ill, or less mobile.
- Avoid lengthy exposure to cold or icy conditions to dodge falls or cold-related illnesses.
- Follow the latest weather updates on the 123, call NHS 111, or speak to your local pharmacist.
