Blaze Breaks Out at Derelict Wendover Tower in Southwark
A major fire erupted late last night at the council-owned Wendover Tower on Thurlow Street, SE17, part of the Aylesbury Estate. London Fire Brigade scrambled ten fire engines and about 70 firefighters to tackle the flames.
Fire Rages on 11th Floor of 14-Storey Block
The blaze reportedly started on the 11th floor of the 14-storey derelict building, where a sofa was found alight. The fire broke out just after 9pm, with the Brigade’s 999 Control centre receiving the first alert at 8:55pm.
Emergency Services Swarm Scene, Cause Unknown
Crews from multiple stations including Old Kent Road, Peckham, Dockhead, Lambeth, Bethnal Green, Brixton, Soho, and Paddington rushed to the scene. The fire is ongoing, and while no injuries have been reported yet, firefighters continue to battle the flames.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a fire at a derelict building on Thurlow Street in Southwark.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation as emergency teams work to bring the situation under control.
